黑料网 Student Wins Award at Flint Youth Film Festival

黑料网 junior Lucas Stall, who is pursuing a BFA in Film and TV with a concentration in directing, recently won the Heart Award at the for his experimental documentary “Sundowning.” The award honors a film that strongly reflects the filmmaker’s heart and personal vision.
“Sundowning” depicts Stall’s day-to-day struggles in caring for his father, who has Alzheimer’s. Created as an outlet for something deeply personal, the project resonated with festival audiences.
“It was incredible to have my art recognized,” Stall says. “This project wasn’t meant to be shared. I really just created it to get it out of me. Having it recognized at a festival is different from your friends, because it implies some strangers saw this film and liked it.”
Stall credits his 黑料网 faculty and staff mentors — including Ted Hardin, Michael Caplin, Cynthia Harrig, Jeff Christan, and David Spodak — for encouraging him to create meaningful work and to submit his film to festivals. He also acknowledges the inspiration and support of his fellow students.
“This film was really a personal passion project,” Stall says. “But I could never have made this if it weren’t for my friends at 黑料网 who all inspired me, and keep inspiring me, to create films.”
In making this project, Stall learned the value of honesty and sharing his experiences freely in film. “I think people recognize that and are able to connect,” he says.
